The Rinnai HydraHeat® Split is a clever way to upgrade to energy-efficient heat pump hot water without necessarily replacing your existing cylinder. An outdoor heat pump captures heat from the air and uses it to heat the water stored in your cylinder, using far less electricity than a standard electric element. Rinnai states energy savings of up to 75% compared with a standard electric hot-water cylinder, helping significantly reduce ongoing hot-water costs. It also heats from the top of the cylinder down, so usable hot water is available quickly.

The system can work with compatible 180L–340L mains-pressure cylinders and Rinnai rates the HydraHeat Split range for households of approximately 2–7 people, depending on cylinder capacity and hot-water usage. It also features frost protection, timer control for taking advantage of off-peak electricity or solar generation, and a 5-year heat pump warranty.
